Having just beaten Warmley we knew Frys would come into the match full of confidence, and so it proved. However our boys were confident too after putting 7 past Yate, and playing some good stuff at the same time.

The first half City played with the wind and early doors created two great chances but failed to take them. Frys responded and had a decent chance from a long throw. As the game went on Dan Spicer started to control midfield and George Dorrington’s long kicks caused the Fry’s defence a lot of trouble. More chances came and went and it was starting to look like one of those days before Jamie Jonas pounced on a Fry’s mistake and smashed the ball into the net. Half-time 1-0

The second half saw the game stretched as Fry’s used their powerful forwards to put us under extreme pressure. All the defence struggled to cope with their pace and power but battled for everything., limiting their chances well. However eventually we cracked and Fry’s scored. 1-1. The response to going behind was immediate and the best move of the match saw Jack Carey cross the ball for Ryan Radford to shoot at the keeper and Sergio Smith was there to snap in the rebound, a great predator’s goal. 2-1.

To their credit Fry’s did not get their heads down and continued to put the ball in behind our defence for their pacey forwards. A couple of excellent stops by George kept us ahead before Ryan scored, 3-1. Again Fry’s came back, scoring from a free kick, to set up a nervy finish at 3-2. The game was still in the balance until Sergio scored his second late in the game to tie things up, 4-2.

All in all a very open game saw lots of chances at both ends and until the final 2 minutes there was never more than 1 goal between the teams. A scrappy win against a very dangerous Frys team was I think a decent result and on the balance of chances a deserved one.
